Making the Most of Student Life

Talk by Sheikh Abdal Hakim Murad - Cambridge - 10 Oct 2010 - 10 mins

In this short talk, delivered on the occasion of a welcoming dinner hosted by the Cambridge University Islamic Society for new students, Sheikh Abdal Hakim offers some thoughts on how to make the most of student life. In particular, he highlights the importance of enjoying the extraordinary experience of the alleged clash of civilisations and of figuring out one's own way of establishing his or her identity as both 'Western' and 'Muslim'.

Apologies for the relatively barren run during the summer. InshaAllah, we hope to update the site regularly now with new talks and sermons to benefit us all. JazakAllah for all your patience.

Thanks! Any chance the Sheikh could deliver a talk with his thoughts on the increasing prevalence of depression (clinical or otherwise) in today's society?

Aside from the tagline at the beginning suggesting a donation to the cambridge mosque - the actual audio is warped. Sounds like alvin and the chimpunks.

Also, if one were to come to UK from another country where would one catch AHM? Does he give regular friday khutbas at cambridge mosque?

Salam! Please note that after the intro the talk by Shaykh Murad sounds like the recording is speeded up to the point that it is unintelligible.

I'm not able to listen to this talk either by clicking on "listen" nor by downloading it. Could you just check into it? Jazak Allah Khairan.

Salaam, thanks to everyone who posted about the bad link. We didn't publish all the comments but appreciate them all the same. Will try and repair the file and republish inshaAllah. Meanwhile, hope you enjoy the new post, more to come soon inshaAllah.

In answer to the question r.e. Shaykh AHM's khutbas, he does do it at the Cambridge mosque sometimes and every other week or so at the univesity Islamic Society jum'ahs during term.

It's amazing to hear of this for me, as someone who recalls the struggles between the 'salafis' and the 'sufis' in Cambridge (early 1990s), at the Mawson Rd mosque.
